The Power of Strategic Priorities: From Busyness to Breakthrough

Week 4: The Peak Performance Leader Series

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Many leaders wear busyness as a badge of honor—packed schedules, endless meetings, and never-ending to-do lists. But let me ask you: Are you truly making progress, or just staying busy?

True leadership isn’t about doing more! It’s about doing what matters most. That’s where Strategic Priorities come in.

This week, we’re diving into:

Why busyness doesn’t equal impact

The 3 Levels of Strategic Focus

How to identify your single most important priority

Practical steps to align your daily actions with your long-term vision

And to take this conversation further, I want to personally invite you to a FREE Masterclass on March 18th:

"Lead with Clarity & Confidence: A Faith-Based Decision-Making Blueprint"

📅 Date: Tuesday, March 18th

Time: 9:00 AM PDT

🎯 Where: Live Online Session

More details on that in a moment, but first, let’s talk about why strategic prioritization is the key to breakthrough leadership.

The Priority Paradox: Why Leaders Get Stuck in Busyness

Most leaders are drowning in good opportunities while starving for great results. Without clear priorities, you’ll find yourself:

🚩 Reacting to urgency instead of pursuing importance

🚩 Exhausting your team with activity without advancement

🚩 Missing divine appointments while chasing distractions

Sound familiar? The truth is, God has a bigger vision for your leadership, but you have to filter the noise and focus on what truly moves the mission forward.

The Three Levels of Strategic Focus

Great leadership isn’t about doing everything. It’s about ruthlessly prioritizing. Here’s how to filter your focus:

1. Breakthrough Priority (The “One Thing” That Changes Everything)

What’s the single most important goal that will most powerfully advance your God-given vision? This isn’t just another task. It’s your North Star for decision-making.

🔍 Ask yourself:

  • If I could only accomplish ONE thing this week, month or quarter, what would have the biggest impact?

  • What’s the highest-leverage action I can take to move my organization forward?

2. Essential Support Activities (What Enables Your Breakthrough Priority)

These are the vital few tasks that directly support your one big goal. They get your best time and energy.

🔍 Ask yourself:

  • What key activities directly contribute to my breakthrough goal?

  • Which daily/weekly habits will ensure long-term success?

3. Everything Else (Delegate, Automate, or Eliminate)

Many good things compete for our time, but not everything deserves our focus. Leadership is about knowing what to say NO to so you can focus on what matters most.

🔍 Ask yourself:

  • What activities or commitments are pulling me away from my priorities?

  • What can I delegate, automate, or eliminate?

When you get clear on these three levels, you move from reacting to everything to leading with focus and intention.

From Insight to Action: Making Priorities Work for You

A strategic plan is useless without action. Here’s how to turn priorities into progress:

Set Deadlines: Give every key initiative a timeline and a clear next step.

Schedule Weekly Priority Reviews: Keep your breakthrough priority front and center.

Create Success Metrics: Define how you’ll measure progress and stay accountable.

Align Your Team: Ensure everyone is rowing in the same direction.
